Middle School Teacher
As a middle school teacher, you’ll teach the lessons and skills that start preparing students for the next step in life.
Middle school teachers typically teach one or more subjects to students at the middle, intermediate or junior high school level, from grades 7 to 9 and ages 13 to 15. You may specialize in a subject, like English, math, science or social studies, assess students’ strengths and then create lesson plans that challenge and encourage them. You could be the positive influence who encourages the next great writer or world-renowned scientist.
Middle school teachers follow a curriculum, develop lesson plans, teach classes in their subject matter and correct their students’ work. They also communicate with parents, assess student’s work and fill out report cards, and give individual students the specialized attention they need.
The first step to teaching at the middle school level is a bachelor’s degree from a university accredited by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. You’ll also need to pass the appropriate tests to become certified as well as complete an Educator Preparation Program.
